SumUp + Shopify POS Integration 2026: Workflow, Capabilities & Limitations

Connecting SumUp to Shopify POS does not create one single payment system. Shopify POS builds the cart, POSBridge connects the workflow and SumUp processes the card transaction.

For installation steps, see our existing step-by-step setup guide. This article focuses on architecture, capabilities and limitations.

The roles

SystemRole
Shopify POSCart, products, customers, order and inventory
POSBridgeRead amount, select terminal, send amount and monitor status
SumUp SoloCustomer-facing card terminal
SumUpProcess the transaction and handle payout

Why SumUp Solo?

SumUp provides a Cloud API for Solo that can initiate in-person transactions and retrieve their status. That allows the POSBridge workflow to communicate through the cloud.

Checkout workflow

  1. Build the cart in Shopify POS.
  2. Open POSBridge.
  3. Read the cart amount.
  4. Address the assigned Solo.
  5. Customer pays.
  6. SumUp processes the transaction.
  7. POSBridge displays status.
  8. Select the custom payment method in Shopify POS.
  9. Complete the sale.

What does the integration improve?

What remains separate?

Which reader is supported?

The current POSBridge Cloud API workflow is designed for SumUp Solo. Solo Lite, Air and older readers are not part of this specific workflow.

Conclusion

POSBridge is a workflow integration: Shopify POS creates the sale, POSBridge transfers the amount, SumUp processes payment and Shopify POS completes the order.
