Terminals

    Configure Tip / Gratuity

Enable and configure tip options per terminal.

With the tip feature, the customer can select a tip directly on the terminal. The tip is automatically added to the payment amount and shown separately in reconciliation.

Requirement: SumUp Solo firmware version 3.3.38.0 or higher for the timeout parameter.

    About 2 minutes
    1

    Open terminal settings

Terminals page → select terminal → Tip tab.

    2

    Enable tip

    Enable Tip enabled.

    3

    Enter rates

    Enter exactly 3 tip rates as decimals (e.g. 0.05 = 5%, 0.10 = 10%, 0.15 = 15%). Rates are sorted ascending.

    4

    Set timeout

How many seconds does the customer have to select a tip? Default: 30 seconds. After timeout: payment without tip.

    5

    Save

Click Save. On the next checkout the tip selection will appear on the terminal screen.

    Warning

Exactly 3 rates are required when tip is enabled. Tip is saved as a separate line on the order (posbridge_tip_amount).

    Cashier Names for Tip Analytics

To see tips broken down by staff member, each cashier needs to enter their name once in the POS modal:

    1. Enable tip on the terminal (as described above)
    2. Next time the modal opens, a prompt "Who is cashiering?" will appear automatically
    3. Enter name and tap Save
    4. Done — the name is saved for all future payments

The name is linked to the cashier's Shopify POS login. When a different staff member logs in at the same register, their own (already saved) name is loaded.

The staff breakdown is visible under Tips in the admin app and can be exported as CSV.
