The POSBridge Tile & Modal Explained
What you see in the POS extension and how to process payments with it.
POSBridge sends the amount to the SumUp terminal and displays the payment status. The card payment itself is exclusively processed by SumUp — POSBridge does not interfere with the transaction.
The Smart Grid Tile
The POSBridge SumUp Payment tile appears in the Shopify POS Smart Grid. At a glance it shows:
- The current cart amount (automatically taken from the active Shopify POS cart)
- The terminal status — whether your paired terminal is ready
Tap the tile to open the payment modal.
The Payment Modal
The modal opens after tapping the tile. It shows:
| Element | Description |
|---|---|
| Full amount / Partial amount | Toggle. Full amount = cart. Partial amount = enter your own amount. |
| Terminal selection | If several terminals: picker. The last used one is pre-selected. |
| Send payment | Sends the amount to the Solo (not “Start payment”). |
| Tip | Not a modal tab. The customer chooses the tip on the terminal after the payment is sent. |
| Countdown (Quick Mode) | When active: sends automatically. Tap the countdown to cancel. |
| Cancel | Cancels the ongoing payment (as long as the terminal has not charged the card). |
Payment Status Display
After the customer taps or inserts their card, the modal shows the current status:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| 🟡 Pending | Terminal is processing the payment — please wait. |
| ✅ Paid | Payment on the Solo succeeded. Now switch back to Shopify POS → complete checkout with the custom payment type (e.g. SumUp). |
| ❌ Failed | Card declined or error. Try again or use a different payment method. |
| ⏱ Expired | Timeout — terminal did not respond in time. Try again. |
Refunds
Refunds do not run through the modal: simply start the return as usual in Shopify POS (or refund in the Shopify admin). POSBridge automatically detects the refund and pays the amount back to the customer's SumUp card.
You see the live status right on the order details page in POS (POSBridge block). Details: see the Refunds category.
After every payment: Switch back to Shopify POS and complete checkout manually — choose the custom payment type (e.g. SumUp). Only then is the order marked as paid in Shopify.
Cashier name (tip attribution)
The customer chooses the tip on the terminal — not in a modal tab. The Settings tab only has the Cashier field: each staff member enters their name once. The name is saved with later payments and used for tip attribution.
Important for several cashiers on one till: Each staff member logs in with their own Shopify POS PIN. The saved name is tied to that login — a switch loads the new cashier name.
Once a name is entered, the prompt disappears. The Tips page in the app then shows a breakdown by staff member.
Correct a name or remove a cashier
In the app under Tips (at the bottom: Cashier management) you can rename cashiers or remove inactive staff. Existing payments are not changed.
